Ethiopian parliament approves 22 cabinet nominees named by PM Abiy Ahmed, with nine women appointed

ADDIS ABABA — Ethiopia’s House of Peoples’ Representatives formally reviewed and approved the appointment of 22 cabinet members nominated by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) during its first regular session of the seventh parliamentary term, according to the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC).

The newly endorsed federal council brings together a mix of returning officials and new appointees to oversee key government ministries.

The approved cabinet lineup includes:

  • Dr. Fitsum Assefa – Minister of Finance
  • Professor Birhanu Nega – Minister of Education
  • Ato Asefa – Minister of Agriculture
  • Ato Mohammed Idris – Minister of Defense
  • Dr. Gedion Timothewos – Minister of Foreign Affairs
  • Dr. Habtamu Itefa – Minister of Water and Energy
  • W/ro Hanna Araya Selassie – Minister of Justice
  • Dr. Fisseha Yitagesu – Minister of Industry
  • W/ro Yasmin Wohabrebebi – Minister of Trade and Regional Integration

Following deliberations, the parliament confirmed all 22 nominees, officially installing them as members of the federal cabinet to carry out the legislative and administrative agenda for the new parliamentary term.
