KAMPALA — Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has challenged African military leadership to integrate national security planning with robust economic growth and political unity.
Addressing delegates at the climax of the inaugural African Conference of Chiefs of Defence Forces on Military Operations Other Than War, held at the Speke Resort Munyonyo, Museveni maintained that maintaining a capable and resilient military apparatus is fundamentally tied to overall economic performance.
According to UG Diplomat, the president stressed that African nations must prioritize structural wealth creation across commercial agriculture, manufacturing, service sectors, and digital technology, alongside leveraging broader market access via the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and regional blocs.
Furthermore, Museveni emphasized that contemporary armed forces must evolve beyond conventional combat roles to address complex, non-traditional security challenges, actively contributing to ongoing stability and nation-building initiatives.
“Security and prosperity go together,” Museveni remarked, expressing his gratitude to the visiting defense chiefs, intelligence heads, and force commanders for convening in Uganda.
