RUWENG — Heavy fighting erupted in Wunkur Payam, Pariang County, within the Ruweng Administrative Area following an armed assault by SPLA-IO forces on an SSPDF garrison.
The morning attack shattered a fragile calm in the area, drawing intense gunfire as SSPDF troops moved to defend the barracks. According to field reports and local sources, government forces successfully thwarted the assault, pursued the attacking elements into nearby bushes, and overpowered them.
The engagement proved severe, resulting in more than 20 casualties across both sides. In the aftermath of the firefight, SSPDF forces recovered six PKM machine guns and detained one SPLA-IO operative at the scene.
